Google Search Central updated its page on AI search optimization on July 10, 2026. The page says that optimizing for AI search is still SEO. In late September and early October, two AI tools lost the tracking tags on their links.
Search Engine Roundtable reported both. Gemini links lost their tag around September 28, and ChatGPT links lost theirs for about a week from October 9.
We read every source on October 30, 2026. Our guide puts these events in one place and lists each source with its date.
We also graded our earlier AI search reports against their sources. See Grading our own AI search predictions.
